Most important meal of the day

My normal breakfast made up of 4 egg whites, 1 egg, 1 piece of bacon, 3 Cups of spinach and peppers and onions as well as a kiwi and 1/3 of a banana. This is the true breakfast of champions!

Good Morning everyone, sorry I have been slacking a little on the posts but work has been crazy busy. All those new years resolutions people who will most likely stick with it for 1-2 months are all about working out and meeting with a personal trainer. Today's blog topic is about nutrition, but more specifically the most important meal of the day, breakfast! Meeting with so many new members and asking them about there nutritional habits it is crazy when they bring me through there daily routine. Out of probably 25 new members I spoke with the healthiest breakfast I heard was made up of fruit cut up in oatmeal(were is the protein and fat?) The rest of these new members either ate cereal, granola bars, or coffee(does that even count?) There are multiple reasons why breakfast is such an important meal; The first reason is very simple, if you break the word up, it simply means break the fast. The longest period your body will go in a given time without taken in food is the time you go to sleep till the time you eat your first meal. By going in this state, which I like to refer to as "survival mode" you metabolic rate is going to drop and depending on the period of time without eating your body will start utilizing your muscle as energy! I don't know about you but I busted my ass to put on my muscle and am not about to lose it because I am to lazy to wake up and have breakfast. The second major reason to eat breakfast is because it is starting are day off on the right foot. Whatever you eat at breakfast will help fuel your body for the remainder of the day. A few of my favorite choices for breakfast are; Proteins: Egg/Egg white, Lean deli meats, or protein shake if on the rush. Carbs: Oatmeal, Vegetables, and FRUIT. Fats: Natural Peanut Butter or Bacon. The best time of the day to eat fruits is for breakfast and post workout. Remember they are healthy but do have simple sugars and are higher on the GI scale then a lot of more favorable carbs. Also remember the importance of a nice balance of Protein/Carbs/Fat at breakfast and with every meal. People shy away from fat but realistically about 30% of your diet should be made up of these fats. If eating correctly and taken care of your your body you will utilize them for energy. Good sources of fats are nuts, bacon, natural peanut butter, or avocados. Hope you learned something about the most important meal of the day. I found this old Wheaties box with a true champion on the cover of a box filled with sugar, bad carbs and fat!
